V K Sasikala’s aide Edappadi Palanisamy has been sworn in as chief minister of Tamil Nadu by Governor C Vidyasagar Rao at 4:40 pm today. He has 15 days to prove his majority in the House.
Edappadi Palanisamy was elected leader of AIADMK by the Sasikala on the day the Supreme Court convicted V K Sasikala in a disproportionate assets case. Majority of the AIDMK MLAs have remained in Sasikala’s camp despite the Supreme Court verdict and visible public anger witnessed in various parts of the state.

Who is Edappadi Palanisamy ?
Edappadi Palanisamy is a three-time MLA from Edappadi in the Kongu region, served as Minister for Highways & Minor Ports before taking over as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. It is reported that when Jayalalithaa was admitted at the Apollo Hospital he was allowed to take over her portfolios, including police.
In recent time of O Panneerselvam’s rebellion, Palanisamy backed Sasikala, helped in gathering AIADMK MLAs to support her. Before the MLAs were taken to the Golden Bay Resort outside Chennai, where Sasikala was camping with around 130 AIADMK MLAs., they were first taken to Palanisamy’s house.
In the first response following Governor Rao inviting Palanisamy to form government, O Panneerselvam said: “we will not let AIADMK go into the hands of Sasikala’s family members.”
At the Press Conference, Supporters of O Panneerselvam kept saying that they want the CM to be the one selected by Amma. O Panneerselvam has vowed to fight against the party ending up with the Sasikala family and has said he will continue the fight.
